Ely Buendia’s sophomore solo album, Method Adaptor, is getting a full-album remix treatment with not just a handful of club edits, but a complete reimagining from front to back. Every track, from the ‘80s-tinged synth sprawl of “Tagpi Tagping Piraso” to the mythic rock grandeur of “Bulaklak sa Buwan,” is being remixed and rebuilt by a handpicked roster of producers. The result? A shapeshifting companion piece that morphs Buendia’s alternative rock foundation into everything from warehouse-ready bangers to immersive ambient excursions.
The line up reads like a who’s-who of the Philippine electronic music’s most inventive minds: Budots pioneer DJ Love turns “Bulaklak sa Buwan” into a hypnotic, rhythm-driven mutation, while Squid 9 —also known as Eraserheads, Pedicab, and Sandwich band member Raimund Marasigan’s electronic alias — strips “Tagpi Tagping Piraso” down to its skeletal glow, emphasizing Buendia’s vocals with icy synth textures based on the snippets posted on social media. Elsewhere, Diego Mapa of Pedicab and Tarsius, as well as Cebuano synth duo Mandaue Nights, bring their signature left-field and synth-pop sensibilities. Other producers, such as producers D Waviee, LOVOL, PYR0CL4ST, and more join in making Method Adaptor Remixed a reinvention, illustrating how Buendia’s songs are as malleable as they are enduring.
Buendia’s sophomore album Method Adaptor originally dropped in November 2024 to critical praise, hailed as a return to the rock icon’s signature storytelling. But where the original reveled in guitar-driven grit, this remix project, out April 30 via Offshore Music, pushes those same compositions into uncharted territory.
