My Chemical Romance is cracking open the vault for the 21st anniversary of Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, announcing a new deluxe reissue of the album that made them a household name for eyeliner-streaked college teens and misfits everywhere.

Released in 2004, the band’s sophomore record pushed emo into the mainstream with zero apologies, fusing punk theatrics with razor-edged post-hardcore melodies. This sophomore album was an upgraded version of their debut album I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love. Their second album featured a direction and love for all things red and black. Now, two decades later, they are giving it the encore it deserves.

The deluxe edition of Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge is set to include unreleased demos, a handful of live recordings, and new artwork that reimagines the album’s iconic cover with a rosary, adding to the funeral and wedding theme of the album. The album’s greatest hits such as “Helena,” “The Ghost of You,” and “I’m Not Okay (I Promise),” are remastered by Grammy Award-winning music producer Rich Costey (who has worked with artists such as Rage Against the Machine, Franz Ferdinand, and Interpol). For fans who never got the chance to scream those lyrics into a sweaty dive bar crowd in the mid-2000s, this reissue is as close to a time machine as it gets.

Frontman Gerard Way and company haven’t said much publicly beyond the official announcement, but the release lands at a time when the band is more mythic than ever. Their first visit to Manila back in 2008 was one of the many instances that local scene kids caught the spectacle of their unique brand of emo music live. Their absence since then has only stoked the demand. The band knows exactly what this record meant to a generation, and they’re leaning into revisiting their most iconic album without softening the original impact.

As a concept album, My Chemical Romance’s Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge was never clean, never pretty. It was theatrical, bloody, and held together by a threadbare sense of control. The deluxe edition is dragging the album back into the light, broken hearts and all. If anything, this anniversary proves that Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge still has a bite among Filipino fans. The heartbreak, the fury, the blood-on-the-lapel melodrama — it all still cuts, and My Chemical Romance knows it.

Fans can now avail the physical copies of the album online and can stream it on all digital platforms anywhere.
