For her undeniable contributions to Philippine film and television, Charo Santos-Concio has been inducted into the inaugural Rolling Stone Philippines Hall of Fame.
“Am I a rolling stone?” Santos-Concio quipped as she took to the stage to accept her honor. “Well, as they say: ‘A rolling stone gathers no moss.’ I think, in my 50 years in the entertainment industry, I have managed to reinvent myself.” The actress and industry leader went on to list her many achievements throughout her career, including starring in a myriad of movies, producing a variety of projects for television, and, to her delight, conquering TikTok.
The former President and CEO of ABS-CBN received this distinction on November 20 at The Peninsula Manila, where Rolling Stone Philippines held its first-ever Hall of Fame ceremony to honor some of the most influential figures in artPhilippine sports, media, sports, art, film and television, journalism, and music. She is one of the six inaugural inductees took to the main stage to receive their honors as the evening’s guests celebrated their many achievements.
For the last five decades, the acting titan has starred in several of the Philippines’ most iconic films, including the late Mike De Leon’s debut horror feature Itim, Lino Brocka’s crime thriller Gumapang Ka sa Lusak, and Lav Diaz’s revenge drama Ang Babaeng Humayo. She hosted and led Maalaala Mo Kaya, the country’s longest-running drama anthology series. She headed ABS-CBN as its chief executive officer, mentored countless actors and actresses, and permanently left her mark on the local entertainment industry.
“Some people simply don’t require an introduction,” said Jose Javier Reyes, the current Film Development Council of the Philippines chairman, as he presented the honor to Santos-Concio. “At the mere mention of her first name alone, an immediate and instant understanding commands everyone’s attention.”
“I guess I am a rolling stone,” said Santos-Concio towards the end of her speech. “But this rolling stone gathers the best stories that reflect our culture, that show the struggles of our people, and that debate the character of our nation. I give these stories to you in the best way possible, in the best shape and form.”
Other inductees into the inaugural Rolling Stone Philippines Hall of Fame include National Artist Kidlat Tahimik for Art, Jessica Soho for Journalism, Vic del Rosario Jr. for Media, Paeng Nepomuceno for Sports, and rock band Juan Dela Cruz for Music.
