Two pillars of 2000s era pop punk are crossing paths again. Yellowcard and Good Charlotte have announced a collaborative version of “Bedroom Posters,” set for release on January 16. The track originally appeared on Yellowcard’s recent album Better Days and now returns with added vocals from Good Charlotte, linking two bands whose careers helped define a generation of pop punk.
“Bedroom Posters” was produced by Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, whose crisp, punchy approach gives the song its forward drive. In its original form, the track centers on vocalist Ryan Key reflecting on youth, memory, and the fear of those moments being erased once time moves on. Good Charlotte’s upcoming feature adds another layer, pulling the song closer to the emotional shorthand that made the band a crossover force in the early 2000s.
Good Charlotte earned their stripes by translating teenage frustration into pop hooks, most clearly on the 2002 album The Young and the Hopeless,spawning hit singles like “The Anthem” and “Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous.” Moreover, Yellowcard arrived around the same time, being most sonically notable through the violin lines that ran through Ocean Avenue in 2003 with breakthrough singles such as “Breathing” and the title track “Ocean Avenue.”
Good Charlotte released their eighth album Motel Du Cap last August, while Yellowcard followed with Better Days in October.
