Timothée Chalamet is in his villain era. After the actor received lashings on the internet for suggesting that “no one cares” about ballet and opera anymore, now, he might just get back in the public’s good graces by going full baddie, as Warner Bros. Pictures unveils the cast posters for Dune: Part Three, the “epic conclusion” to Denis Villeneuve’s hit sci-fi trilogy.
The new character posters come only a day after the 98th Academy Awards, where host Conan O’Brien took a jab at Chalamet for his comment, which he made in a conversation with Matthew McConaughey for Variety in February. The clip of Chalamet’s remark went viral just days before Hollywood’s biggest night, and sparked backlash from fans and performers alike. For the double-whammy, Chalamet was nominated Best Actor for his performance in the sports comedy-drama Marty Supreme, but ultimately lost the accolade to Sinners’ Michael B. Jordan.
But if Chalamet’s character can endure the Bene Gesserit pain box, then the actor can weather this mild career blunder. In Dune 3, he returns as Paul Atreides. The poster shows Paul with scarring around the eyes, which fans speculate was caused by his growing powers as the messianic Kwisatz Haderach.
Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Javier Bardem, Rebecca Ferguson, and Florence Pugh are reprising their roles as Chani, Hayt (or Duncan Idaho), Stilgar, Lady Jessica, and Irulan, respectively. Anya Taylor-Joy, who plays Paul’s sister Alia, is also expected to play a bigger role in the upcoming movie, after only lending her voice and making a cameo in Dune: Part Two.
The new character posters also introduce Robert Pattinson as the spy Scytale and Ivorian actor Isaach De Bankolé as the rogue fighter Farok.
Dune: Part Three is set to premiere in the Philippines on December 16, two days before the worldwide release, and ahead of the Metro Manila Film Festival.
