Should BTS’s first night of their Goyang Stadium show have been canceled from torrential downpours? The answer leans toward no. The 3-day concert experience had a slippery start, with wet stage conditions making parts of the performance harder to execute safely while an impromptu dance performance of “I Need U” were made up for the bad weather.

BTS officially launched their world tour for their latest album ARIRANG at South Korea’s Goyang Stadium on April 9. The concert was a major return after four years, following the group’s full completion of military service. But what should have been a straightforward celebration took an unexpected turn, with heavy rain battering the stadium, affecting the audience and the performers on stage. Weather reports showed that the downpour was already nearing its tail end by the time of the concert. According to The Chosun Daily, rain that began the day prior was expected to ease as a low-pressure system moved out of South Korea by late afternoon on the day of the concert.

Fans were also given a heads up ahead of time, with forecasts pointing to a rainy April 9 show, followed by improving conditions on April 11 and 12 at the same venue. Even with the risks, the group doubled down into the rainy moment. According to BBC, the concert featured lighter moments, including V doing the “worm dance” on the wet stage floor, while RM warned him about the risk of slipping.

Members also addressed the conditions directly. Jimin commented on the rain, saying, “I’m soaked down to my underwear but the most important thing was getting to see you all,” he says. “For four years, I couldn’t see you and it was tough, but it’s an honour that I got to see you again.”

No reports of people were harmed nor there were reported accidents during the concert

The BTS kickoff shows will also be broadcasted on Weverse on April 11 and April 12.
