It can be a challenge trying to decide which upcoming movie deserves a trip to the cinemas this June (and, if I had my way, we’d catch all of them on the big screen). The movies set to make their cinematic premiere in Philippine cinemas this June are no different, and it looks like there’s a movie for everyone this month. If you’re in the mood for a family movie, there’s Toy Story 5 (and, if you focus hard enough, it has lots to say about the ongoing debate of analog-versus-AI). Filipino dramas like Muro-Ami and Open Endings are also set to hit cinemas nationwide. And, for those who need something spookier, turn to Backrooms or Disclosure Day, or Scary Movie if you appreciate a horror-comedy.
There are a lot of different movies making their way to cinemas this June, but have no fear. For your viewing pleasure, we’ve put together a list of all the movies to look out for and when they’re set to hit the big screen.
‘Masters of the Universe’ (June 3)
Toy-franchises-turned-blockbusters are never a guaranteed success, but I have hopes for Masters of the Universe! Prince Adam (Nicholas Galitzine) has been trapped in the real world for 15 years, but the Sword of Power finally leads him back to Eternia. Unfortunately, his home world has been destroyed by the fiendish Skeletor (aptly played by Jared Leto). Adam must team up with his closest allies, Teela (Camila Mendes) and Duncan/Man-At-Arms (Idris Elba), to save the day and embrace his true identity as He-Man.
‘Queer’ (June 3)
It’s been two years since Luca Guadagnino’s Queer premiered at the Venice International Film Festival, but the romance-drama is making its way to Philippine cinemas as an Ayala Malls Cinemas exclusive. Set in the 1950s, Queer follows William Lee (Daniel Craig), an American expat leading a solitary life in Mexico City. However, when Eugene (Drew Starkey) rolls into town, William finds himself yearning for a meaningful connection with the young man.
‘Backrooms’ (June 3)
How do you break out of the Backrooms? (I genuinely ask, especially after surviving a Backrooms-themed escape room). But anyway, this is the central question of Clark (Chiwetel Ejiofor), Mary (Renate Reinsve), and the rest of the people unlucky enough to fall into the alternate dimension in director Kane Parsons’ cinematic debut, Backrooms.
‘Habang Nilalamon ng Hydra ang Kasaysayan’ (June 3)
After making its national premiere at the 2025 Cinemalaya Film Festival, director Dustin Celestino’s Habang Nilalamon ng Hydra ang Kasaysayan is making its cinematic release this June 3. Starring Dolly De Leon, Jojit Lorenzo, Zanjoe Marudo, and Mylene Dizon, the political drama focuses on four Filipinos as they confront the erasure of memory and truth in a country overrun by misinformation.
‘Muro-Ami’ (June 3)
In 1999, National Artist and director Marilou Diaz-Abaya’s Muro-Ami swept that year’s Metro Manila Film Festival with its grisly look at the illegal practices of muro-ami fishing that continue to take place across the Philippines. Written by National Artist Ricky Lee and Jun Robles Lana, Muro-Ami stars Cesar Montano, Pen Medina, and Jhong Hilario. A digitally remastered format of the film will screen in 35 cinemas nationwide starting June 3.
‘Scary Movie’ (June 10)
The main four of the Scary Movie franchise are back: Cindy (Anna Faris), Brenda (Regina Hall), Shorty (Marlon Wayans), and Ray (Shawn Wayans) are making their grand return, and no horror movie IP is safe. Based on the trailer alone, it looks like they’ll be taking shots at Scream (of course), M3gan, Sinners, Weapons, The Substance, and more.
‘Open Endings’ (June 10)
A year after the sapphic hit made its Philippine debut at the 2025 Cinemalaya Film Festival (where it became the fest’s number one box office hit), director Nigel Santos’ Open Endings is getting a nationwide release this June. Boundaries don’t exist in this queer comedy-drama, which centers on a group of friends-slash-ex-lovers — Kit (Klea Pineda), Charlie (Janella Salvador), Hannah (Jasmine Curtis-Smith), and Mihan (Leanne Mamonong) — as they navigate friendship, love, and adulthood.
‘Disclosure Day’ (June 10)
It took writer David Koepp 42 tries to get the script for Disclosure Day right, but the sci-fi thriller is finally making its way to the big screen. Directed by Steven Spielberg, Disclosure Day stars Josh O’Connor, Emily Blunt, Colman Domingo, and Colin Firth, and it’s set to focus on aliens making contact with planet Earth.
‘Toy Story 5’ (June 17)
Oh no: Bonnie’s an iPad kid now. In the latest addition to the Toy Story franchise, our favorite band of toys — Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz (Tim Allen), Jessie (Joan Cusack), and the rest of them — must do what they can to stop the evil Lilypad (Greta Lee) from brainwashing Bonnie (Scarlett Spears) and turning her away from toys forever.
‘Supergirl’ (June 24)
Superman’s cousin, Kara Zor-El (Milly Alcock), has a lot of work cut out for her. After an unexpected adversary strikes a little too close to home, Supergirl must join forces with a child named Ruthye (Eve Ridley) as they embark on an interstellar revenge rampage.
