This March, two members of the famed Santos family — father Soler and son Luis Antonio — will be showcasing their work at Art Basel Hong Kong, through the Manila-based gallery, The Drawing Room.
The Manila-based gallery has long championed contemporary Philippine art and is returning to Art Basel Hong Kong. The gallery will exhibit Soler Santos’ abstractionist assemblage alongside Luis Antonio Santos’ photorealistic paintings.

Known for painting subjects from nature, Soler — the son of the late prolific artist Mauro Malang Santos — has been a mainstay in the local art scene. He’s the patriarch of West Gallery in Quezon City, an art space established for promising, young artists.
His son, Luis Antonio, has dedicated his artistic practice to experimenting with different media, including painting and photography, and exploring the tension between the two with his photorealistic pieces. He’s increasingly been drawn to silkscreen printing as a medium in his practice that often depicts industrial objects like blinds, corrugated roofing, and, chicken wire.
This year, Art Basel Hong Kong is set to take place from March 28 to 30 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The event will feature 240 galleries from 42 countries and territories, with more than half of the participating galleries from the Asia-Pacific.
Founded in 1970 by gallerists from Basel, the fair provides a platform for today’s most prominent artists, collectors, galleries, and curators across the globe.
