On August 23, the 73rd Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) Awards honored some of the best full-length features, actors, and technical brilliance the Philippine entertainment industry had to offer this year.
This year’s Best Picture Award went to Alipato at Muog, a gripping documentary that centered around the 2007 abduction of activist Jonas Burgos, as well as the subsequent efforts of his family to uncover the truth behind his disappearance. Burgos’ younger brother JL directed the documentary and took home Best Director at the awards ceremony. “Sa totoo lang, lumikha kami ng pelikula na di umaasa ng kahit anong award,” said Burgos. “Ang nais lang naming sabihin ay mayroong ganitong klaseng kaganapan sa Pilipinas.”
