Universal Pictures Philippines is bringing Robert Eggers’ nightmarish reimagining of the 1922 horror classic Nosferatu to Philippine cinemas starting February 26.
The gothic tale centers around a haunted young woman (Lily-Rose Depp) and the undead Count Orlok’s (Bill Skarsgård) terrifying obsession with her. The film boasts a star-studded cast, including Willem Dafoe, Nicholas Hoult, Emma Corrin, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
The original Nosferatu, directed by F.W. Murnau, dates back over a century ago and remains one of the defining films of the silent era. It revolutionized the vampire genre by presenting a horrifyingly grotesque creature, far removed from the suave and seductive Count Dracula. Instead of charm, it introduced audiences to a distorted figure that would forever change how we view vampires on the cinematic screen.
Eggers’ eerie retelling of the vampire classic has been met with critical acclaim. Since its US release on December 25, 2024, Nosferatu has grossed a cumulative global box office total of $135 million, making it the highest-grossing non-sequel, non-prequel horror movie of 2024. Surpassing other recent horror movies, including The Substance and Longlegs, Nosferatu is set to be a major contender during this year’s award season, having already received four Critics Choice Awards nominations including for Best Cinematography.
