Superman has just hit theaters around the world, but its main cast members were on a press junket journey to promote the blockbuster weeks in advance. Our feeds were flooded with David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, and Nicholas Hoult flashing their most charming smiles in their interviews. But it seemed that things got a little raunchy on the press tour.
Eagle-eyed fans have pointed out that Corenswet and Brosnahan — our generation’s new Superman and Lois Lane — possess an undeniable chemistry both on and off the screen. Several paired interviews saw either Corenswet casually wrapping his arm around Brosnahan or the latter cheekily slapping him on the knee. Other chats with the co-stars have them joking about their on-screen relationship. “Who doesn’t want to get flown around by a strapping, tall gentleman in leather?” Brosnahan asked in a YouTube interview with People. That same interview also had them discussing who was the better kisser on set. “I swear, if these two were not married to other people, [probably] this interview (as well as other interviews) would definitely take a different turn,” commented one viewer.
Brosnahan has also joked about just how much kissing she and Corenswet had to do while shooting director James Gunn’s new blockbuster. “We made out for about four hours and then shot the rest of it,” Brosnahan said in a panel promoting the movie, only for Gunn to interject, clarifying, “On screen, yes!”
“There is more chemistry between the actors in this interview than the entirety of the [Zack] Snyder Clark/Lois relationship,” commented one user on a Facebook post highlighting the moment.
At the same time, many of the moments between Corenswet and Brosnahan were intentionally crafted to highlight their roles as love interests in Superman. An Entertainment Weekly YouTube interview saw the co-stars taking a chemistry test, which involved a breathing sync challenge (with Corenswet bending down to place his forehead on Brosnahan’s), a complimenting game, and a long, intimate, two-minute hug. “Their spouses deserve Green Lantern Rings with how strong their wills are,” one viewer noted, with several others commenting on how the two actors’ respective partners are handling the on-screen intimacy.
And where was Hoult in all this chemistry talk? Right there with the fans — openly simping for Corenswet. In a recent post on the official Superman Instagram, a promo video shows Hoult scrolling through his camera roll, which, in a quick close-up, reveals a gallery packed with photos of Corenswet. “I’m so embarrassed,” Hoult commented on the post.
Was Hoult also pandering to the gays? Most definitely. Rocking a gorgeous new platinum blonde look and tight tank tops that emphasized his big arms, carrying equally big, heavy bags, Hoult has successfully turned Lex Luthor into the ultimate thirst trap. The press tour has also leaned into Hoult’s sex appeal, with one recent Instagram Reel zooming in on the Superman suit, only for Hoult to be hiding inside its bright red trunks. “Make sure you get your tickets now so you can see me — I mean, Superman!” Hoult said while enveloped in the trunks’ embrace.
