Fans of Ella Arcangel, rejoice: the Filipino fantasy-horror comic series is hitting the silver screen in 2026, co-produced by GMA Pictures. The cinematic adaptation is titled Ella Arcangel: Mga Awit ng Pangil at Kuko and was announced during the recent Komikon Grande 2025.

Written and illustrated by Julius Villanueva, Ella Arcangel follows its titular character, a young mambabarang who protects the people of Barangay Masikap from the demons that lurk in the shadows. The series, first published in 2017 by Haliya Publishing, may initially appear to be a straightforward epic rooted in the monsters of Filipino folklore, but it goes far deeper. Fans have praised Villanueva’s work for weaving themes of corruption, poverty, drug wars, and unemployment.

This cinematic adaptation of the series will be directed by National Book Awardee Mervin Malonzo, the comic book artist best known for his horror comic series, Tabi Po. The film will be produced by Manny Angeles and Avid Liongoren, the creators of the adult animated film Hayop Ka! The Nimfa Dimaano Story.

This will be the first animated film of GMA Pictures.
