They’re gonna get you!
Evil Dead Burn — the fifth in the bloody horror franchise created by Sam Raimi — has just released its latest trailer. Although it doesn’t reveal too much about its plotline, the movie’s set to focus on a woman seeking solace with her in-laws after the death of her husband. Unfortunately, the Book of the Dead is back, and she must defend herself in the secluded family home as everyone around her slowly turns into Deadites.
The trailer gives us all the gore that has made the franchise a horror classic, including chopped-up fingers, a car’s headrest used as a stabber, and, of course, a chainsaw. There’s also some healthy wax-eating and a dishwasher-turned-weapon, so best prepare yourself when Evil Dead Burn hits Philippine cinemas on July 22.
Directed by Sébastien Vaniček (Infested), Evil Dead Burn stars Souheila Yacoub (Dune: Part Two), Hunter Doohan (Wednesday), Luciane Buchanan (The Night Agent), Tandi Wright (Pearl), and George Pullar (It Only Takes A Night).
The franchise first started in 1981 with Raimi’s The Evil Dead, followed by the sequels Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness. The 2013 reboot, Evil Dead, was directed by Fede Álvarez, followed by Lee Cronin’s Evil Dead Rise.
Although Bruce Campbell, who played the original protagonist Ash Williams, was such a mainstay of the franchise, he has chosen to be less involved in upcoming spinoff films due to health concerns. Earlier this March, he announced that he’d been diagnosed with a “treatable,” but not “curable,” cancer. “Professionally, a few things will have to change,” wrote Campbell. “Appearances and cons and work in general need to take [a] back seat to treatment.”
