The Oscars Red Carpet Was Taken Over by Funky Suits

Boring suits are over. Brandi Carlile, Lisa, Jeff Goldblum, and Bowen Yang prove that red carpet dressing doesn’t have to just be a suit and a tie all the time

Gone are the days when awards seasons call for stiff tuxedos and suits and ties. The men — and women, too! — are making some fun, unapologetic sartorial choices on the red carpet and this year’s Oscars is no exception.

2025 Academy Award nominees, presenters, and guests came out at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles for Hollywood’s biggest night in anything but boring suits.

Singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile arrived in a polka dot suit with a contrasting white lapel and a pink bow to wrap it all up. A womenswear version of this walked down Alessandro Michele’s Valentino debut for Spring 2025, but Carlile chose to go the menswear route wearing it with an even more fun trimmed shirt.

Actor Jeff Goldblum will never be caught dead wearing boring clothes, that much we know. The actor graced the Oscars red carpet in a custom Prada look that takes Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons’ Fall 2025 perverted floral motif for an awards season spin. Props for the actual flowers on his lapel, too.

Oscar noms presenter and Saturday Night Live’s Bowen Yang, known for his off-kilter red carpet looks, skewed the trajectory of tonight’s men’s fashion — for good — with an embroidered black leather jacket and a flirty pink chiffon shirt.

Even BLACKPINK member and newly minted The White Lotus actor, Lisa, who’s fresh off her new album release, got the memo. For her first Oscars appearance, she chose a MARKGONG suit/long jacket complete with a floor-length dress shirt.

R.I.P. the black suit and tie. Although, kudos to the men who make the case for wearing it time and again. Looking at you, Adrien Brody, Sebastian Stan, and Guy Pearce. Thank you for your service, sirs. And, Mark Eydelshteyn, this was your chance to prove you’re not just a Timothée Chalamet clone and you blew it! Nice Balenciaga though.
