How well do you know the Commission on Elections (COMELEC)? The February 28 episode of the national variety show It’s Showtime made us wonder. During the show’s “Sexy Babe” segment, It’s Showtime host Vice Ganda asked contestant Heart Aquino for her message to COMELEC. Aquino confessed that she had “limited” knowledge about the poll body and that at 20 years old she had yet to vote.

“Wala kang naririnig? Hindi ka ba nanonood ng telebisyon? Nagbabasa ng dyaryo?” Ganda asked Aquino. The contestant admitted that she had no TV at home and that news about COMELEC didn’t appear on her social media feeds.

“That’s bothersome,” Ganda replied.

Since the episode aired, the poll body has reached out to Aquino, inviting the contestant to its office on March 4 to educate her on the commission’s function.

Let’s not be too hard on Aquino. There are hundreds of government agencies in the Philippines, with a plethora of sub-agencies to boot. Even the most educated Filipino might not be able to spell out what all these acronyms stand for, and that’s okay! But let’s put you to the test: do you know what all these government acronyms mean? Don’t be scared — take our quiz and find out!
