Scarlett Johansson is the new Hollywood box office queen, thanks to Jurassic World: Rebirth.
Johansson takes the lead in Jurassic World: Rebirth as Zora Bennett, an ambitious mercenary who’s on a mission to collect DNA samples from three of the planet’s biggest dinosaurs. In its first week alone, the latest installment of Jurassic Park has earned a whopping $318 million globally, making it the biggest worldwide opening of 2025 for any studio film so far. The blockbuster is currently the second biggest international box office opener of the year, behind China’s animated feature Ne Zha 2.
What does this mean for ScarJo? According to data from The Numbers, the continued box office success of Jurassic World: Rebirth has pushed Johansson’s lifetime career gross to $14.8 billion in films where she appears as a lead or lead ensemble member. Over $8.7 billion of that figure comes from her time as Black Widow from the four Avengers movies and Captain America: Civil War. Her other lead roles include Iron Man 2, Black Widow, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Beyond the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Johansson has starred in a wide range of films, including The Prestige (which earned over $104 million at the worldwide box office), He’s Just Not That Into You ($181 million), The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie ($142 million), and The Jungle Book ($951 million), just to name a few. The actress has also served as an executive producer for films like 2011’s The Whale and Black Widow; more recently, she made her directorial debut with the drama Eleanor the Great, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.
With Jurassic World: Rebirth, Johansson has officially taken the crown as Hollywood’s top-grossing lead actor. She’s in strong company among the top ten earners, with fellow Marvel co-star and former highest-grossing actor, Samuel L. Jackson, who’s in second place at $14.6 billion for his roles as Nick Fury in the MCU and as Frozone in Pixar’s two Incredibles movies.
Other MCU alumni in the top ranks include Robert Downey Jr., Zoe Saldana, Chris Pratt, Chris Hemsworth, and Chris Evans. Outside of the MCU, only Tom Cruise, Vin Diesel, and Dwayne Johnson make the list of Hollywood’s top ten highest-grossing actors, highlighting the significant impact of superhero franchises on box office success.
