After finding success in this year’s international film festival circuit and becoming a box office hit in the Philippines, Sunshine, directed by Antoinette Jadaone and starring Maris Racal, will finally be available to stream on Netflix later in November.

The film, which tackles the contentious topic of illegal abortion, made its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2024. At the Berlin International Film Festival in February 2025, it won the Crystal Bear for Best Film. It also bagged awards at this year’s Austin Asian American Film Festival and Tartuff Festival in Estonia.

With Racal as its titular character, the film was released in Philippine cinemas in July, having been given an R-16 rating by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB). Despite the rating limiting its viewership, the film earned P47 million at the box office by August.

Now, more Filipino audiences will get to watch Sunshine on demand. The film will be released on Netflix on November 26.
