An animated adaptation of ZsaZsa Zaturnnah is set to make its world premiere at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival this June in Annecy, France.
Inspired by the 2002 graphic novel of the same name by Carlo Vergara (who also wrote the film’s screenplay), ZsaZsa Zaturnnah follows Ada, a shy hairdresser who transforms into a Glamazon-esque superhero after eating a power-infused meteorite. This adaptation is co-produced by CreaZion Studios, Inc. and indie animation company, Rocketsheep Studio, and directed by Avid Liongoren.
An unfinished version of the film was initially presented under the festival’s Work in Progress section last year. Although the film is still currently in the final stages of production, Rocketsheep Studio has stressed that it will be ready for its global debut. As the studio wrote in an official announcement of the film’s premiere, “[It] has been a huge honor for the selection committee to review our incomplete film and deem it worthy of their festival when there are so many awesome completed films vying for a spot.”
ZsaZsa Zaturnnah won’t be the only project from a Filipino production company to make its debut at Annecy. Toon City and PlayLab’s animated series Sun Chaser, which stars Manny Jacinto and Liza Soberano, will also be debuting its pilot episode. Joining them is GMA’s animated documentary 58th, directed by Carl Joseph Papa, which honors the victims of the Maguindanao Massacre.
