Nearly 10 years after Erik Matti’s action thriller BuyBust was released in Philippine cinemas (and introduced Anne Curtis as a worthy action star), the director has announced an exciting follow-up with BuyBust: The Undesirables.

Matti unveiled the first official clip from the nine-episode series, marking his first collaboration with Netflix. Curtis, who played ambitious anti-narcotics officer Nina Manigan in the 2018 movie, is returning to reprise her role. She is joined by Gerald Anderson and a slate of established actors and newcomers.

Netflix released a preview of the series, which features a range of high-octane action sequences and what appears to be a dystopian Philippines. While the storyline’s details have yet to be revealed, we do know that it will follow a vengeful ex-cop (Curtis) and a corporate outcast (Anderson) who are brought together by the murder of the senator’s daughter and a manhunt for a drug lord who goes by the alias Judas.

“We moved on from the drug war story, and we made it about rich and poor — the powerful and the powerless,” said Matti. “We wanted to talk about the Philippines as a country and whether it was impossible to ‘clean it up’ without going political. We are focusing on real characters and the real conflicts of each of them.”

The series is set to be released in 2026.
