On October 1, the Filipino Music Awards (FMAs) revealed this year’s nominees for the Alternative Song of the Year category, standing out as a snapshot of how Filipino musicians continue to stretch the genre’s definition.
The Alternative Song of the Year award looks beyond polished radio singles, spotlighting songs that bend form, approach sound with sharper edges, and frame performance outside conventional pop structures. The award reflects how local artists choose to present their music against mainstream expectations.
This year’s nominees include Baguio-based rock band Dilaw for their single “Mahal,” and Parañaque-based outfit One Click Straight earned a nod for “Telepono.” Funk band Lola Amour’s bad boy anthem “Misbehave” was also nominated, alongside rock heavyweights Sandwich, who teamed up with Suyen on “Basura.” Rounding out the list is Zild‘s “I.N.A.S” from his album Superpower.
The Filipino Music Awards will take place on October 21 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena, honoring some of the country’s best in music, showcasing the breadth of Filipino artistry across multiple categories.
