BLACKPINK has pulled out all the stops to be showstoppers, and this time, podcasts are part of the equation. On their latest track “Me and My” from the EP DEADLINE, released February 27, the group explores into an unexpected sample seemingly drawn from the NBA podcast world. The song opens with the unmistakable intro horns from NO DUNKS, which co-host J.E. Skeets pointed out himself, saying, “It has the ‘NO DUNKS’ intro horns that go into a banger of a song, to be honest.”

Sampling has long been common practice in K-pop, often used to heighten emotion, punctuate climaxes, or subtly shape a track’s mood. Recent examples include IVE’s “After Like,” which interpolates Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive” in 2022, or the more unconventional use of the “Crazy German Kid” clip in BTS’ “Not Today” back in 2017. These borrowed elements function as effective recontextualization of these references from both music and internet culture.

NO DUNKS itself is a daily NBA podcast and YouTube show hosted by longtime basketball podcasters J.E. Skeets, Tas Melas, Trey Kerby, and JD. The show officially launched under the NO DUNKS name in October 2019 after the crew’s departure from NBA TV. Known for its mix of comedic banter and in-depth analysis, the podcast covers league news, game breakdowns, and listener questions. Before that, the group established their following through The Basketball Jones and The Starters.
