Space-Ta Unveils ‘Debussy,’ Pulls in OPM Rock Mainstays for New Album

The latest project taps into ‘90s alt influences while pulling in collaborators such as Raymund Marasigan, Blaster, Silonga, and more

Multi-genre musician Space-Ta is set to release his follow-up album Debussy, named after the French composer Claude Debussy. The concept album pays homage to the ‘90s alternative rock sound and plays around with the themes of time travel.

Debussy gathers together pop rock and psychedelic textures across 10 tracks. Songs like “Di Man Tayo,” “Reyna ng Sining,” and “Sa Piling Mo” experiment with the acoustic guitar, reverb-heavy vocals, the bandurria, and ambient music brought by organ pianos. Moreover, the album leaps from garage rock on “Must Be” to the more immersive space rock-influenced production and sprawling arrangements in “Reyna Ng Sining” and “Nakita Ko Sa Iyong Mata.”

The album brings in a massive list of the who’s who of collaborators, mostly belonging to the OPM rock scene. Musicians Francis De Veyra, Raymund Marasigan, and Buddy Zabala produced several tracks on the album while players Kakoy Legaspi, Blaster Silonga, Shinji Tanaka, and others contributed to the album’s live performances. Each track transforms sonically depending on who’s involved, giving the project a more varied and unpredictable direction.

Space-Ta will host a listening party for Debussy on April 23 at New Frontier Theater in Cubao, Quezon City.
