On August 22, Grammy Award-winning pop-rap artist Doja Cat announced her upcoming Manila concert, slated for December 7 at SM Mall of Asia, Pasay City, as part of her Ma Vie World Tour. The announcement was also made alongside her new single and video, “Jealous Type.”
Known for hits like “Kiss Me More,” “Say So,” “Woman,” and “Need to Know,” she first teased her new era in March when she revealed a Grace Jones-inspired haircut with the caption “tu es ma vie,” meaning “you are my life” in French. That phrase later shaped the rollout of her upcoming album, Vie, due September 26 on all streaming platforms.
The project finds Doja Cat leaning into an ‘80s visual aesthetic, a shift that’s already taken shape across her visuals and performances. With the release of “Jealous Type,” listeners get their first full glimpse of this direction. The music video trades in her darker, surreal imagery in past projects like “Demons” for neon-lit sets and stylized choreography, building a neo-noir atmosphere where she moves through elaborate setups in striking costumes. Her latest singles draw from synth pop textures but also an ambitious push toward worldbuilding as a visual artist.
Her last standalone single, “OK LOSER,” arrived in April of 2024, but “Jealous Type” marks the clearest look yet at the sound and vision behind her upcoming album Vie.
