The Filipino Music Awards will be happening this coming October 21 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena to honor the country’s best in Filipino music. Billed as one of the highest recognitions in the local music industry, the event promises to showcase the range and talent of artists across multiple genres.
On September 6, organizers announced this year’s categories, with special attention to the Genre Awards category. These awards highlight not only technical skill, but also the cultural and artistic contributions of musicians who have defined their respective fields.
Folk Song of the Year will recognize songwriting rooted in acoustic and regional traditions. Hip-Hop Song of the Year will celebrate excellence in lyricism, flow, and production. Independent Song of the Year will honor artists breaking ground outside the mainstream, while Pop Song of the Year will highlight songwriting, melodies, and wide audience reach. R&B Song of the Year will focus on vocal groove and soulful expression, while Rock Song of the Year will recognize music that continues to redefine the sound of Filipino rock.
