On August 19, Rolling Stone Philippines Social Club held its latest edition, this time celebrating the women’s empowerment film Sunshine, directed by award-winning director Antoinette Jadaone. The film, starring Maris Racal, is still in theaters and is enjoying a fifth week run, a rare feat in Philippine cinema these days.
“This space was created with a clear purpose: to foster a community,” said Rolling Stone Philippines publisher Anne Bernisca. “It is a place for us to gather, connect, and celebrate the storytellers who are defining our culture.”
The night gathered the team behind Sunshine, including actors Elijah Canlas and Meryll Soriano and producers Dan Villegas, Claudia Diaz Cojuangco, Geo Lomutad, Reign Anne De Guzman. Also present were filmmakers such as Irene Villamor, Petersen Vargas, and actors Jomari Angeles and Miguel Odron of the film Some Nights I Feel Like Walking.
For this edition of Rolling Stone Philippines Social Club with Zyn, Manila House prepared a four-course meal, which includes, Prime Rib Eye or Pan Seared Salmon and Tablea Lava Gelato for dessert.
In her speech, Jadaone talked about how the success of their film proves that there is a space for braver storytelling. “This film was never just mine. It was a collective act of faith from our incredible cast, our tireless crew, and everyone who believed in this story from the very start.”
“Sunshine’s success proves our industry thrives when we give space to new voices and fresh perspectives. They help us understand ourselves as Filipinos more deeply.”
