On January 24, the transdisciplinary cultural hub WHYNoT Manila will host an dall-day screening of short clips and interviews to honor the life and legacy of David Lynch, one of cinema’s most groundbreaking surrealist filmmakers. This special tribute event comes a week after Lynch’s passing on January 17 at age 78.
The event will celebrate Lynch’s extraordinary career, which includes cinematic masterpieces such as Mulholland Drive, Eraserhead, and Twin Peaks, among others. From 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., WHYNoT Manila at Karrivin Studios in Makati will do round-the-clock screenings of video interviews with Lynch, plus a selection of shorts. To round out the experience, blue martinis — possibly alluding to Lynch’s 1986 neo-noir film Blue Velvet — will be served from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., offering the perfect drink to toast to the enigmatic artist.

Lynch’s work pushed the boundaries of conventional filmmaking, offering a distinct and often bizarre perspective that became his trademark. Other film projects such as Wild At Heart, Dune, and The Elephant Man saw the director honing his signature blend of the ordinary and strange. In 2024, Lynch shared he was diagnosed with emphysema, which reportedly worsened as a result of the recent Los Angeles wildfires.
WHYNoT Manila is located on the 4th floor of Karrivin Studios, 2316 Chino Roces Ave Ext. Makati. The culture hub is open Tuesdays to Saturdays, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
