The Cinema ‘76 Film Society, a micro-cinema based in Quezon City, is hosting its annual Oscars live viewing party.

While most people tend to watch the Oscars on a streaming service or read updates online, there is a certain charm that comes with watching the award ceremony play out in real-time. Because anything can happen at the Oscars: from Chris Rock being smacked in the face by Will Smith during the 2022 ceremony to the infamous Best Picture mix-up of 2017, the Academy Awards never fail to deliver on moments that keep audiences coming back for more. Watching the ceremony unfold in the moment, seeing celebrities react, and feeling the energy of those watching with you just adds to the Oscar magic.

Cinema ‘76, best known for bringing pioneering Filipino and foreign films to local audiences, will be hosting its Oscars party at its movie theater on Tomas Morato Ave in Diliman, Quezon City. The viewing will take place on March 3 at 8:00 a.m., with the ceremony beginning in the United States at 4:00 p.m. Pacific Time.

This year’s Academy Award ceremony promises to be an interesting one for a number of reasons. The film with the most nominations this year, Spanish comedy musical Emilia Pérez, has stirred controversy, with audiences claiming that the movie doesn’t deserve its 13 nominations, arguing that it’s simply not good. Other films in the running for Best Picture include the immigrant epic The Brutalist, the romance drama Anora, and the papal thriller Conclave, among others.
