There’s something about Maki’s use of color. But that’s only the surface of what the singer-songwriter has gone through over the past year. In that time, he has quietly become one of the biggest solo artists in Filipino music. After releasing his debut EP Tanong in 2023 and eventually scoring his biggest hit to date with “Dilaw” in 2024, the path ahead started to look more permanent. That rise was built slowly and intentionally, and with his latest release “kahel na langit,” Maki continues to show that his story isn’t finished.
Before “Dilaw” found its audience, Maki was already thinking about leaving music behind. He has spoken openly about his struggles with impostor syndrome and how hard it was to accept the wave of attention that came after the song’s success. For a time, he felt he didn’t deserve it. But with distance and perspective, he now recognizes that his wins are a result of everything he and his team have worked for.
Maki’s latest single arrived at a launch event in SM Mall of Asia’s rooftop venue Sky where he introduced a different side of him. “kahel na langit” moves away from the brightness of yellow and embraces a warmer tone. Orange, in this case, feels calm, expansive, and far more personal. The shift is not just visual. It comes through in the sound with heavenly production and a soaring vocal performance from Maki.
There is still no confirmed date for his full-length album Kolorcoaster, but the song already feels like a turning point, especially after selling out two nights at the New Frontier Theater last November. His music carries a renewed sense of youth and freedom, and as his colors continue to change, his form never remains stagnant.
