Malasimbo Music Festival has announced its final line-up of artists, performers, and DJs, taking place at the Puerta Real Gardens, Intramuros, Manila, on March 8.
House music icon Francois K will be gracing the stage with his selections of disco and electronica; hip-hop DJs Shortkut and Flava Matikz specialize in scratching and their soul, hip-hop, and dub selections; J Nice and Sky Dominique’s trap and hip-hop selections will surprise patrons throughout the day.
Acts like Nai Palm, the solo neo-soul project of Australian Soul Jazz greats Hiatus Kaiyote, will be bringing her brand of calming, complex, and intricate soul music all the way to Intramuros City. Reggae music mainstay from Hawaii Mike Love will be making his comeback to the Malasimbo Festival stage.
On the local front, expect the hard-hitting boom bap collective of Moro Beats, the Gen-Z flavored improvisation of GundamFunk, and the world music-influenced ensemble of Brigada will be sharing the same stage as the headliners.
Art installations will be highlighted around Puerto Real Gardens with installations from surreal sculpted figures from Agnes Arellano, Veronica Ibarreta’s paintings on traditional womenswear, the aspiring nature-influenced figures of Olivia D’aboville, and many more.
Malasimbo will live music on the delicately engineered Funktion-One sound system, a British sound system manufacturer, that is tailored perfectly around the environment of Puerto Real Gardens’ 18th-century walls and lush greenery, offering a one-of-a-kind experience for festival goers.
Malasimbo will also be a whole-day family affair: a crochet workshop and bike riding in the kid’s village, and more art installations will be laid around the venue of Puerto Real Gardens, Intramuros City.
This year’s Malasimbo is a showcase of returning acts and new artists that will surprise longtime regulars and newcomers alike, ranging from genres like funk, disco, dub, reggae, and many more. All this, while paying homage to local acts that highlight the talent of Philippine music.
