As February kicks off and Valentine’s Day looms closer, the live music scene is heating up with a lineup of shows that’ll make your heart race faster than a last-minute date plan. This weekend’s gigs are the perfect prelude to the season of love. So grab your crew, your boo, or just your favorite pair of earphones, and dive into these must-see events before we all spend time in a sea of heart emojis.

warphole: Mari Sakurai, UG, Christal, Care Taking

warphole is expected to transport audiences into a 12-hour trip of “music that stimulates intuition, exploration, and time-bending genre selection.”

Headlining warphole is Mari Sakurai, a Tokyo-based DJ that straddles between the experimental and powerful fringes of techno music. She has performed at festivals and venues such as Berghain, Boiler Room, Red Bull Music Festival, and many more. 

Also in the DJ lineup are UG, Christal, and Care Taking.

TWELVETENCATALOG: Year 5 Anniversary

February 9, 9 p.m.

Independent clothing line 1210 will be releasing their latest catalog of merch in fifth anniversary pop-up event at the Lynx, Poblacion, Makati City. The event will also feature established hip-hop acts from all over the city performing exclusively for the pop-up event. Groups such as Gusimann, Peso Gang, Webmob, rap duo Hardknockz and rappers like Trvmata, K4lem, Shehatestracy and many more. 

Admission to the event is free. 

Tanaw: The Repeat Concert

Newport Performing Arts Theater, Pasay City
February 9, 6 p.m.

Original Pilipino Music’s most iconic female singer-songwriters Barbie Almalbis, Kitchie Nadal, Aia De Leon, Lougee Basabas, Acel Bisa and Hannah Romawac will be reuniting for the second time in Gabi Na Nanaman’s ‘Tanaw: The Repeat Concert.’ The program will also feature a special string section arrangement from The Manila String Machine at the Newport Performing Arts Theater at Pasay City. It’s the blast from the past in 2000s OPM, and we’re here to witness it again this coming Sunday.

Help Requested: Limbs, Stiffneck, Gallows, and More

Filipino mathcore trio Limbs is organizing a fundraiser show in anticipation of their mini Southeast Asia tour around Singapore and Malaysia. are set to embark on a mini-Southeast Asia tour in Singapore and Malaysia.. The show will feature a special set from Limbs, as well as performances by their favorite local bands, including thegrungegaze band StiffNeck, post-rock act Gallows, hardcore groups Gibraltar and Comply/Resist, and emo bands Irrevocable, and emma bot.

Tickets are priced at P300, and pay-what-you-can by the door for students and full-time activists. Proceeds from the door will be donated to the band’s costs in traveling and expenses during their tour. 

Cup of Joe: Silakbo Concert

February 8-9, 8 p.m.

Baguio based pop-rock band Cup of Joe will be have their second run of major concerts this weekend.The major concert will also feature songs from their debut album ‘Silakbo’ and more from their catalog of singles.

Kiyo x Waiian in Jess&Pat’s

February 1 and 2, Saturday and Sunday

Hip-hop fan favorites kiyo and Waiian are turning up the quaint and chill atmosphere of Jess&Pat’s, Maginhawa St.reet into a back-to-back hip-hop show for two days straight. With a second date added due to popular demand, both artists will showcase their newer material and classics alongside special guests during their respective sets.

The eclectic music label evosound are ready to present their showcase of indie pop, surf rock and alternative rock artists for free this coming Saturday at 123 Block, Mandaluyong City. The show is free and attendees must register first before attending the show. 

Awkward Dancer Live in Bacolod City

Cebuano noise rock quartet Awkward Dancer will be making their Bacolod City live debut with the help of local promoters Purple Phase at M Music Pub. Opening for the visiting band are other alternative bands ranging from garage rock and shoegaze. There will be DJs spinning and providing a selection of music throughout the entire show. 

Diskoteka: Eli Cicada, Uggo, Chele, Christal, Dancefloor Therapy

On February 1, Eli Cicada, a resident at Cafe Del Mar Phuket, is anticipated to play a night of afro-house in Poblacion’s Apotheka. Cicada’s music draws inspiration from jazz and funk, having shared the DJ booth with artists like Solomun, Keinemusik, Dubfire, and many others. Cicada is set play alongside Brazilian afro house producer and DJ Uggo, as well as Chele — best known as Chele Gonzalez, head chef of Gallery by Chele.

The techno room will be led by Christal, whose sound as a DJ is influenced by punk and, emo and metal, as well as Baguio City’s Dancefloor Therapy (Freqreleant B2B Cartfilling).
