What do you get when you take some of Philippine cinema’s most prolific and acclaimed actors — Joel Torre, Gina Alajar, Edu Manzano, Ruby Ruiz, and Ronnie Lazaro, just to name a few — and have them star in a dark comedy? You get Everybody Knows Every Juan, Viva Films’ upcoming release directed by Alessandra de Rossi, who herself is part of the film’s ensemble cast.
Details of the comedy’s storyline have been kept under wraps so far, but its basic plot follows four siblings, portrayed by de Rossi, Manzano, Ruiz, and Torre, who reunite on the death anniversary of their mother, played by Liza Lorena. The entire story unfolds over a single night, mirroring its quick production, which concluded in just one day after two days of rehearsal.
De Rossi, who made her directorial debut in 2021 with the romance My Amanda, starring herself and Piolo Pascual, noted that Everybody Knows Every Juan will focus on the theme of adulthood. “Adulting kami, kasi senior yung mga stars ko,” said De Rossi in an interview with Inquirer. “Kami yung adult version.”
The film’s supporting actors are just as stacked, including Jaime Fabrigas, Angel Aquino, Empoy Marquez, and Jerald Napoles. Atasha Muhlach making her silver screen debut in the film.
Everybody Knows Every Juan is set to screen in Philippine cinemas on October 22.
