In 1975, Steven Spielberg terrified audiences everywhere with the world’s first-ever blockbuster, Jaws. Its main villain, a 25-foot great white shark lovingly named Bruce by the internationally acclaimed director, terrorized the swimmer-filled waters of Amity Island. A giant bite out of a surfer here, another bite out of a crochety fisherman there, and the shark has become the stuff of nightmares (and is most likely the reason why some of us have a phobia of open bodies of water).
Now, audiences can relive the terror on the big screen as Jaws returns to Philippine cinemas starting September 17 in time for its 50th anniversary.
Jaws follows local police chief Brody (Roy Scheider), marine biologist Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss), and jaded seafarer Quint (Robert Shaw) as they embark on a journey to hunt the massive shark, unleashing chaos on their Long Island community.
According to Universal Pictures Philippines, the blockbuster will also be screened in IMAX and 4DX cinemas, for those who want to be even more immersed in the Jaws’ murky, blood-streaked waters.
