Laguna post-hardcore outfit Typecast returns with a brand new single titled “Rupture,” out June 10. This is their first release since “Slight” dropped in August 2024. This latest offering marks a shift in direction for the band, signaling a heavier, more aggressive sound that builds on their roots in DIY emo but doesn’t shy away from technical grit.

Known for their 2000s anthems like “Will You Ever Learn” and “Boston Drama,” Typecast leans into deeper and darker territory this time around. “Rupture” trades in the wide-eyed emotion of their early work for something more layered and controlled. It feels less like heartbreak and more like a confrontation with their emotions.

Last April, the band shared the stage with Urbandub for a 25th anniversary double-header at the New Frontier Theater, capping the night with covers of Taking Back Sunday’s “MakeDamnSure” and Deftones’ “Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away).” It was a loud, full-circle moment for a band that has long worn its influences on its sleeve.

Earlier this year, Typecast also celebrated the 21st anniversary of their seminal debut The Infatuation Is Always There, at Viva Cafe in Cubao, Quezon City, which gave fans long-standing favorites like “Clutching,” “Another Minute Until Ten,” and “Breathe Through the Glass.”
