Get ready, The Last of Us is returning to HBO and Max this April. On January 7, the streaming platform released a new teaser for the show’s second season.
The highly anticipated second season of the thriller drama sees the return of Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) as they continue to navigate a post-apocalyptic America. While the first season already followed a violent and gut-wrenching storyline, with a major character death guaranteed for almost every episode, the teaser sets up the darker tone of this latest season. The teaser also introduces newcomer Abby (Kaitlyn Dever), who fans of the video game may recognize as one of the narrative’s main antagonists.
The teaser also offers a look at several of the characters from the video game that will be joining the cast this season, including Westworld’s Jeffrey Wright as antagonist Isaac Dixon and Alien: Romulus’ Isabela Merced as Dina, Ellie’s love interest. New cast members also include Beef’s Young Mazino and Schitt’s Creek’s Catherine O’Hara.
The new season tackles the aftermath of Joel’s bloody massacre of the militia group Fireflies’ entire medical team in order to save Ellie. In a quick clip in the latest teaser, Abby is seen distraughtly walking down an ominous hallway with alarms blaring in the background; as players of The Last of Us may remember, this pivotal moment marks the beginning of Abby’s brutal quest for vengeance against Joel.
While no specific premiere date for The Last of Us Season 2 has been released yet, the teaser reveals that the show will be available to stream on Max in April.
