Lawyer Anna Liza Logan has been appointed the new chief legal counsel to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. This follows the passing of Juan Ponce Enrile, who last served as presidential legal counsel, in November.

Logan previously sat on the board of directors of the Philippine National Railways, representing the Office of the President as its deputy executive secretary for legal affairs.

She was an associate at the law firm Agabin Verzola Hermoso Layaoen & De Castro, whose partner, Attorney Pacifico Agabin, has taken on high-profile clients like former President Joseph “Erap” Estrada and former Senator Antonio Trillanes. Logan went on to be a junior partner at First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos’ former law firm Marcos Ochoa Serapio and Tan (MOST), before leaving and co-founding Logan Masukat Ronulo Huang Law Office in 2019.

Rappler reports that Logan had applied to be ombudsman, proposing an anti-corruption plan that included scrapping a Duterte-era memorandum restricting the public’s access to government officials’ Statements of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN). With the appointment of Jesus Crispin Remulla as ombudsman in October, SALNs have become available to the public, reversing the restrictions placed by former Ombudsman Samuel Martires.
