Two typhoons have struck the Philippines in rapid succession.
Typhoon Uwan (Fung-wong), the country’s 21st tropical cyclone of the year, made landfall in Aurora as a super typhoon on the evening of November 9. Although it has since been downgraded to a typhoon, Typhoon Uwan has already claimed at least two lives and left multiple reports of severe damage, flooding, and displacement in its wake. Meanwhile, Typhoon Tino (Kalmaegi), which first made landfall in Southern Leyte on November 4, currently has a death toll of 224, with extensive damage and displacement reported across the Visayan regions.
As people across the country pick up the pieces in the aftermath of both storms, multiple groups and organizations are leading relief efforts to help impacted communities. Rolling Stone Philippines has compiled a list of donation drives where you can contribute funds or resources to support those affected by Typhoon Uwan or Typhoon Tino.
Philippine Red Cross
On November 9, the Philippine Red Cross made an appeal for donations in the form of food, water, hygiene kits, sleeping kits, water containers, tents, medicine, and solar lamps for those affected by Typhoon Uwan. The non-profit is also accepting cash donations, to be paid via PHILPaCS, BPI, GCash, PayPal, Maya, or Security Bank.
The Philippine Red Cross is also accepting cash donations for those affected by Typhoon Tino. The organization has been on the ground in Cebu and Davao since October, providing support for families affected by the earthquakes that struck the region.
Angat Buhay
When Typhoon Tino hit La Castellana, Negros Occidental, Angat Buhay was able to deliver 300 food packs, Leptospirosis Prophylaxis medical supplies, vitamins, and 1,000 bottles of water to residents badly affected by the storm.
The non-profit rallied once again in the immediate aftermath of Typhoon Uwan, using its Angat Bayanihan Volunteer Network to distribute over 700 hot meals to evacuees in Taytay, Rizal. The non-profit is accepting cash donations to support communities impacted by both typhoons via its official website.
PAWS Philippines
The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) has been vocal about the importance of caring for domestic pets and stray animals even in the midst of both typhoons. In Cebu specifically, the nonprofit has partnered with Island Rescue Organization to provide support to pet owners affected by Typhoon Tino. PAWS is currently accepting cash donations via its official channels.
José Rizal University
José Rizal University has placed a call out for donations to aid those impacted by both Typhoon Uwan and Typhoon Tino. The university is accepting in-kind donations from November 11 to 14, to be dropped off at its Community Development Office between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. only. Ideal in-kind donations include dry goods, water, and toiletries.
University of the Philippines Cebu
The University of the Philippines Cebu is currently accepting both cash and in-kind donations for those affected by Typhoon Tino. Recommended in-kind donations include water, hygiene products, and cooking equipment. These may be dropped off at the university’s Lahug Campus.
Kabataan Partylist
The Kabataan Partylist is accepting both cash and in-kind donations for those impacted by both typhoons. For in-kind donations, Kabataan recommends food, water, first aid kits, women’s hygiene kits, hygiene products, blankets, school supplies, and construction materials, all of which should be dropped off at Apo St. Extension, Marcos Compound, Barangay Pasong Tamo, Quezon City. For those based in Leyte, Kabataan is also collecting in-kind donations dropped off at Barangay 49, Purok Santol Youngfield, Tacloban City.
