The Straw Hats are setting sail once again and heading into deeper waters. Netflix recently dropped the first trailer for Season 2 of One Piece, its live-action adaptation of the beloved manga, along with a release window set for 2026.
After the first introduced Monkey D. Luffy (Iñaki Godoy) and his pirate crew on their journey for the legendary “One Piece,” the show’s second season will center on the manga’s Arabasta saga, which sees the group exploring the Grand Line: a treacherous stretch of sea so deadly, it’s known as the “pirate’s graveyard.” Eagle-eyed fans have been quick to spot familiar faces from the manga in the trailer, including the good-natured giant Brogy (Brendan Murray) and Princess Vivi (Bridgerton’s Charithra Chandran).
The trailer also gives us our first look at Nico Robin, a pivotal character from the manga who initially appears as one of the Straw Hats’ main antagonists. Played by Lera Abova in the live-action series, Nico Robin, also known by her codename Miss All-Sunday, can be seen using her Hana Hana no Mi powers to open a door in a burst of pink flower petals. While the manga’s Arabasta saga had her staying put aboard the Straw Hats’ ship, the Going Merry, the trailer places her in a different setting, hinting at a potential shift in how her story unfolds in the live-action adaptation. Whether Miss All-Sunday emerges as the season’s big bad remains to be seen.
One Piece, both the manga and the anime adaptation from Toei Animation, has long been a classic story loved by its large and devoted global fanbase. The manga, created by the famed manga artist Eiichiro Oda, set the Guinness World Record in 2022 for most comic books published for the same comic book series by a single author, reaching a whopping 500 million copies printed worldwide. The anime series is one of the most popular franchises in the world, having run more than 1,000 episodes.
The Netflix series has also been given an early renewal for its third season, which will begin production in Cape Town, South Africa later this year. Ian Stokes, who was previously a co-executive producer on Season 1, will be joining Joe Tracz as a co-showrunner.
