KAPUT, an independently produced queer rave, is set to return this October 4 with its ninth edition, titled “New Dreams, Old Horrors.”
Known for operating outside of corporate or institutional funding, the Manila-based organizers are bringing together artists from Belgium, Australia, United States, and the Philippines for a night that blurs the lines between rave culture and performance art.
KAPUT 9 will take place on Saturday, October 4, with a concept loosely based on the traditional “sarswela” — a Filipino form of theater that weaves together acting, singing, dance, and live music. In this reimagining, the elements of “sarswela” will merge with movement, dramaturgy, lighting design, visual art, and electronic music to create an immersive dance environment.
The lineup includes Brussels-based performance artist Joshua Serafin, guest collective Apolemia, New York-based DJ Lydo, Filipino-Australian performer Emil Cañita, Filipino performance artist Bunny Cadag, dancer Shayna Laine, saxophonist Roxy Modesto, and a video installation from filmmaker Ishmael Bernal. Local DJs and producers Apex Henares Chiudian, D Waviee, and Warphole’s Hideki Ito will be in the roster, layering experimental sets that provide the evening’s sonic backbone.
Since 2022, KAPUT has pioneered the use of audiovisual installations in Manila’s alternative party scene, where they occupy the intersection of art and dance music. Each edition promises to be more than just a party, but a site for queer expression, community gathering, and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
