Japanese singer-songwriter Hikaru Utada is releasing a special edition vinyl of their latest single “Mine or Yours,” initially released in May. The vinyl edition, which is dropping in November 26, will feature new remixes, with the producers set to be announced soon.

Utada has long shaped the sound of modern Japanese pop with era-defining singles like “First Love,” “Automatic,” “Simple and Clean,” and “One Last Kiss.” Their music has anchored both soundtracks and remixes in the past — from “Simple and Clean” opening the iconic 2002 role playing video game Kingdom Hearts, to “One Last Kiss” closing Hideaki Anno’s 2021 film Evangelion 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time.

Utada’s influence continues to stand apart in Japanese pop culture. Their debut album First Love arrived when they were only aged 16, breaking through with a sound that blended American R&B with Japanese sensibilities. At a time when the market was saturated with highly controlled idol groups, Utada wrote their own lyrics and carried themselves with an independence that helped define their image.Their remix projects have often drawn international attention. The 2022 Electricity Remixes release featured contributions from Arca, Karen Nyame KG, and salute, bridging Utada’s music into global club and dance spaces. Earlier this year, they made a surprise appearance at Tokyo’s SONICMANIA festival, joining English electronic producer Floating Points onstage.
