For over a decade, the Wish Music Awards (WMAs) has immortalized some of local music’s most enduring names and heralded the meteoric rise of OPM’s brightest young artists. Now in its 11th year, the WMAs doubles down on its mission: giving Filipino artists of all genres a live stage to celebrate the music, community, and performances that continue to shape the sound of the nation.
Held on January 11 at the Araneta Coliseum, the 11th WMAs featured performances from the likes of up-and-comer Amiel Sol, IV of Spades — fresh off their two-night solo concert in December — and indie darlings fitterkarma. Hosted by Christian Bautista and Karylle, the night unfolded with sonic spectacle, beginning from the rollout of the star-studded orange carpet until the awarding of the winners.
Nearly 80 acts competed across 19 categories this year, from Wishclusive Hip-Hop Performance of the Year to Wish Breakthrough Artist of the Year. Winners were determined through a joint voting system composed of jury votes (75 percent) and public votes (25 percent), save for the Wishers’ Choice Award, which went to the nominee with the highest number of public votes across all categories.
