The Actor Awards, despite the unfamiliar name, is not a new awards ceremony. For 31 years, it was known as the SAG Awards, named after the U.S. actors union SAG-AFTRA. However this year, the group of roughly 118,000 working actors decided that the name change was necessary to reflect a more international audience.
“We wanted to provide clearer recognition in terms of what the show is about for our domestic and global audiences,” wrote the union on its official website. “We honor film and television.”
The ceremony, held on March 1, was hosted by Kristen Bell and was streamed live on Netflix from Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall.

Beyond honoring this year’s most memorable films and television series, the ceremony also awarded Harrison Ford the SAG-AFTRA Life Achievement Award, an accolade which has been received in the past by Jane Fonda, Barbra Streisand, Robert De Niro, and more. “It’s a little weird to receive this at the halfpoint of my career,” joked Ford as he took to the stage to receive his award. “It’s a little early, isn’t it?”
