She famously played the role of Kim in Miss Saigon on Broadway and became the first Asian actress to win the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical in 1991. Salonga then later became the first Asian actress to play Éponine in Les Misérables on Broadway in 1993 and 1996, returning to the beloved musical as Fantine in its 2006 revival.
