group Stray Kids has opted out of submitting music for consideration at the 2027 Grammy Awards. Consisting of members Bang Chan, Lee Know, Changbin, Hyunjin, Han, Felix, and Seungmi, the group joined BTS in boycotting the ceremony over backlash against the Recording Academy’s newly created Best Asian Pop Music Performance category last July.

JYP Entertainment confirmed on October 3 that Stray Kids did not submit any music for the 69th Grammy Awards. Stray Kids’ label did not elaborate on its reasoning.

According to Korea Herald last August, Stray Kids member Seungmin decided to focus more on music rather than awards.

“We’ve never once set out to make an album chasing a particular award or record,” Seungmin said. “When we talk about the music or performances we love, it doesn’t come from how we’re seen from the outside — it comes from what’s inside us as we build a stage or write lyrics. It’s less about outside expectations around awards and more about capturing the sound and story we want to tell.”

The Recording Academy introduced the Best Asian Pop Music Performance category in June as one of five new 2027 Grammy awards, intended to recognize K-pop, J-pop, and C-pop performances that make meaningful use of an Asian language.

BTS announced its own boycott in July, stating, “We hope music can be heard and embraced for what it is, beyond region or language.”
