Film director Antoinette Jadaone announced a new production outfit, Ilaya Ilaya. Jadaone will run the company with longtime collaborator and producer Reign Anne De Guzman.
“Before we were filmmakers, we were lovers of Philippine cinema,” Jadaone says. “We want to be more intentional now about telling stories and working with people who demonstrate a genuine love for Philippine cinema.”
The production outfit is developing several projects alongside some of the most recognizable names in the film industry. One of the first films announced is Birdsong, a found-footage horror film directed by Pam Miras and written by Glenn Barit. Another project in development is Chandra Catacutan and the Curse of the Fuchsia Moon, a supernatural comedy directed by Tim Rone Villanueva and starring Eugene Domingo. Jadaone will also direct Boldstar, which stars Angelica Panganiban.
Ilaya Ilaya will also bring Jadaone’s most recent film, Sunshine, to the stage. The play will be directed by Mikko Angeles, with Maris Racal reprising her role. Ilaya Ilaya will soon expand into television, with Jadaone showrunning an as-yet-untitled romcom series for Netflix Philippines. Plot and casting details are yet to be announced.
Jadaone and De Guzman duo aims to champion women-led stories in Filipino cinema. More specifically, the two are aiming to highlight unappreciated genres and filmmakers who are struggling to find support outside traditional studio systems and festival funding cycles.
