KPop Demon Hunters is coming to the Criterion Collection.
The Collection, known for its wide array of physical copies of films from around the world, recently made the announcement via Variety. The surprise Netflix hit has grown to become the most popular film of all time on the platform, bringing in an impressive 325,100,000 views to date. After winning several awards at this year’s Golden Globes, Critics’ Choice Awards, and Grammys, KPop Demon Hunters is currently in the running for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song at the upcoming Academy Awards.
As of writing, the animated film has yet to be added to the Criterion Collection’s website. However, it has already been included in the official Blu-ray website, where it’s set to be released as a single 4K disc. Blu-ray.com is a reference for forthcoming releases, while the Criterion Collection announces its own releases monthly.
Although the addition of KPop Demon Hunters may seem out of place (but when is a movie about demon-slaying idols ever in its place?), the Criterion Collection has steadily been announcing the addition of other awards season favorites from last year, including Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value, Jafar Panahi’s It Was Just an Accident, and Kleber Mendonça Filho’sThe Secret Agent. In the same Variety announcement, the Collection also revealed that it would be acquiring Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, another awards season favorite.
KPop Demon Hunters is currently available to stream on Netflix.
