In perhaps his most high-profile wrestling match yet, CM Punk brought back his old entrance theme, the early-aughts anthem, “Miseria Cantare: The Beginning” by AFI (A Fire Inside). Against rival Roman Reigns at Night 2 of Wrestlemania 42, “Miseria Cantare” played throughout a montage of Punk’s career before his signature entrance song of “Cult of Personality” by Living Colour took over. The two songs served as a fitting bookend, that covering Punk’s wrestling career from Ring of Honor to WWE.
This isn’t the first time Punk brought back the song. “Miseria Cantare” also made a comeback in 2022 when he beat Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF) at All Elite Wrestling’s Revolution pay-per-view event in an instant-classic Dog Collar Match.
At Wrestlemania 42, though, Punk didn’t get the same outcome losing to Reigns in a 34-minute back-and-forth bout that ended his championship run at 169 days. In a post-match Instagram Story post, Punk showed his gratitude, saying, “What a life. What a gift,” and quoting the lyrics of “Miseria Cantare,”, “Nothing from nowhere. I’m no one at all.”
