Few shows defined the 90’s quite like the teenage series, T.G.I.S. (short for Thank God It’s Sabado). Now, more than 30 years later, cast members Angelu De Leon, Bobby Andrews, Polo Ravales, and Rica Peralejo are in one set once again in Netflix’s Paskong Pinoy.
The Netflix Original anthology series, directed by Mark Reyes (who also directed the T.G.I.S series), promises to follow the lives of different Filipinos as they navigate the holiday season. Reyes announced that De Leon, Andrews, Raveles, and Paralejo will star together in one specific episode, which will also feature late T.G.I.S. cast member Red Sternberg. “Unfortunately, we lost Red last year,” said Reyes at a Netflix Philippines press conference. “But he’s still part of the show somehow, so you’ll have to watch it.”
“It kind of feels like a school reunion,” Peralejo told Rolling Stone Philippines. “I haven’t been around [in show business] for more than a decade, so it’s been very nostalgic because I’m seeing familiar faces that I haven’t seen since my teens.”
Andrews also revealed a few details about the T.G.I.S. cast members’ episode in Paskong Pinoy. “‘Yong episode namin, “The Last New Year in Boracay,’” he said, “is about a group of friends who grew up and aged together, and they’re all around their late 30s.”
“When Direk Mark pitched his show to us, there was no story yet. It was just the cast [but] everybody just said yes immediately,” said De Leon. “It’s such an honor to be back and to be with them again. It wasn’t really work at all.”
Paskong Pinoy is slated to premiere on December 3.
