Welcome to What to Watch Right Now, our weekly rundown of the best things to watch right now. The constant stream of shows, videos, and films to watch online can become a sludge to wade through, so here are a few things you can watch courtesy of the Rolling Stone Philippines team. Whether it’s a new film, TV series, or even a home video release you should own, we hope it can ease the burden of choosing which streaming platform to use or of discovering a new cinematic odyssey.

This week, we’ve been on a streaming marathon thanks to new releases like the second half of Bridgerton’s fourth season. We’ve also revisited past seasons of hit shows, such as True Detective: Night Country and House of the Dragon, to remind ourselves of what makes them prestige TV. For those looking for gripping, albeit difficult, docuseries, turn to Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model or Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich. And for those who just need a cozy watch mixed with some subtle whodunnit undertones, let me refer you to The ‘Burbs.

‘Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich’

The type of true crime show that’ll make you wonder how this sicko was left unchecked for so long

Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich is by no means an easy watch, and I only recommend it if you’re emotionally prepared for a deep dive into how the late sex offender built his network of politicians, benefactors, and the dozens of young women he forced into his sex trafficking ring. Through interviews with multiple survivors, several of whom were underage when they first met Epstein, the docuseries presents the amount of abuse and manipulation that they went through in order to survive. At the same time, the show looks at how he was able to use his wealth and friends in high places to escape any real punishment for decades. —Mel Wang

‘Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model’

Layers upon layers of horrific shitshows that made for “good TV”

It’s no secret that Tyra Banks wasn’t the most congenial show host. But this docuseries reveals just how dangerously fucked up things were behind the scenes of Banks’ hit competitive modeling series.

The usual suspects are covered, from the crime scene photoshoot to Dani Evans and Joanie Sprague’s ill-fated trip to the dentist. But Reality Check also doesn’t shy away from the body-shaming, racial profiling, and cases of sexual assault that went down on set. By the time you finish all three episodes, you’ll realize just how much past contestants had to give up in order to stay in the running to be America’s next top model. —Mel Wang

‘Bridgerton’ Season 4

The latest season of this period romance reaches its pinnacle

The second part of Bridgerton Season 4 has just been released, and I’m definitely binge-watching it this weekend. In the first part, Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha) has managed to keep her identity as Benedict Bridgerton’s (Luke Thompson) masked Cinderella a secret. So far, the show has held back on the steam that made Season 1 so great, but hopefully, these next four episodes satisfy not just my need for something extremely freaky to happen, but also the many other questions I have for the characters. Why keep the ruse up? Will Francesca ever get with Michaela? And can Queen Charlotte let go of her best friend, Lady Danbury? —Pie Gonzaga

‘The ‘Burbs’

A quaint, spooky whodunnit, with Keke Palmer leading the charge

If you’re looking for a low-stakes murder mystery that involves seemingly haunted houses and casual day drinking in suburbia, then thisis the show for you. In a nutshell, The ‘Burbs (a loose-ish remake of the 1989 dark comedy of the same name with Tom Hanks and Carrie Fisher) follows newlywed couple Samira (Keke Palmer) and Rob (Jack Whitehall) as they move into a predominantly white cul-de-sac that’s hiding a dark secret.

While the ensemble cast does its best to play up the eccentricities that come with living in a tight-knit, claustrophobic suburban community, Palmer is definitely bringing most of the charm and nuance to the show. She’s quick to go big on jokes compared to her straight-men husband and neighbors, and as she slowly starts to figure out what’s wrong with her new neighborhood, all you can do is hope that she solves the mystery unscathed. —Mel Wang

‘House of the Dragon’

We return to the brutal side of Westeros

After finishing the first season of the lighthearted A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, fans are strapping in for the return of House of the Dragon and all its bloodshed and court intrigue. Two years after the second season was released, all we have right now is a teaser, so now might be a good time to catch up with the show or refresh your memory.

The upcoming third season situates the show’s super blonde cast of characters deep in the Dance of the Dragons, a succession war between the Blacks and the Greens, two rivaling factions of the House Targaryen. George R. R. Martin’s readers already know how the war pans out, but there’s also no saying how HBO’s House of the Dragon might deviate from its source material, something we already saw in Game of Thrones. —Pie Gonzaga

‘True Detective: Night Country’

Who doesn’t like a cold, dark whodunnit?

Speaking of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, I’ve found myself in need of more Finn Bennett, who plays the arrogant Aerion Targaryen. Like many other fans of the series, I’ve taken to watching True Detective: Night Country, the fourth season in the anthology crime series. Night Country focuses on the murders of scientists in Ennis, Alaska, north of the Arctic Circle. Now, don’t get me wrong, Bennett is definitely hot here as the police officer Pete Prior, but Jodie Foster is just something else to me as a sapphic. Her performance as lead detective Liz Danvers, which seems to recall her work in The Silence of the Lambs, earned her accolades at the 2024 Golden Globes, Critics’ Choice Super Awards, and the Primetime Emmy Awards. —Pie Gonzaga
