Hot off the release of his third studio album, Fictions You Produce, Arthur Nery has just made history as the first-ever artist spotlighted in Spotify 360, a new experience that brings artists together with their top Spotify Premium listeners.
“Overwhelming siya for sure,” Nery tells Rolling Stone Philippines ahead of his show on Thursday, October 22. “Kahit intimate lang siya, may pressure pa rin siya, kasi ikaw ‘yung unang mag-se-set ng standard.”
Spotify 360 is an exclusive fan experience where Spotify identifies and invites Premium fans in-app, based on their listening data. At the event, these fans are treated to activations like a message wall (where they can write notes to their favorite artist), a video booth, and an exhibit celebrating the artist’s journey. The day culminates in an intimate show and a meet-and-greet.
In its first iteration, Spotify took Nery and his fans to the New Clark City Athletics Stadium in Capas, Tarlac, where he sang hits like “Binhi,” “TAKE ALL THE LOVE,” and “Isa Lang,” his most popular song at over 500 million streams. The R&B icon also brought out Cebuana singer-songwriterSinger-SongwriterA musician who writes and performs their own songs, usually with just a guitar or piano. Singer-songwriters are valued for honest, personal storytelling, and many of the most beloved voicesGo to Singer-Songwriter Glossary Jolianne to perform their 2025 song “Palayo Sa Mundo.”
Of the nerves that come with blazing this trail, Nery says, “Na-overcome ko lang siya because of my team and my fans, who tell me, ‘Just do whatever you wanna do and be who you are.’ So na-boost lang din ‘yung [confidence] ko. In short, masaya.”
Despite having done arena shows, like his debut concert at the New Frontier Theater in 2022 and another at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in 2024, Nery still likes doing the small shows. “I still do bar gigs,” he says. “Most of the time, ‘yung set-up, nasa harap lahat, so very time na uubo ako, tatalikod ako. [Sa arena] kasi, feeling ko, ‘pag tumalikod ako tapos umubo ako, makikita pa rin.
“May ganun siyang pressure, na parang you’re just naked, and everyone’s looking at you,” he adds. “May slight pressure, pero masaya din naman ‘yung challenge.”
Connecting Artists and Fans
While Spotify 360 was held at the New Clark City Athletics Stadium, its crowd was contained within the infield, where Spotify set up a circular stage and doughnut-shaped LED screen to round out the theme.
That evening, Nery shows why he deserves this milestone, even as he stays humble about it. Between songs, he banters with his fans and doesn’t take himself too seriously. But when the music starts — courtesy of a phenomenal chorale, string ensemble, and band supporting him — the singer locks in with his ice-cool voice and the smoothest runs. It’s not hard to see why over nine million Spotify users listen to him monthly.
Nery believes there’s still value in connecting artists with their fans. “I was once a fan too,” Nery says. “Iba talaga ‘yung feeling ‘pag na-me-meet mo ‘yung taong nagpapatulog sayo o nagbibigay sayo ng right emotions.”
Now, being one of OPMOPMShort for Original Pilipino Music, the broad body of songs written and performed by Filipino artists, from kundiman and folk ballads to rock, pop, and hip-hop. OPM is a cornerstoneGo to OPM Glossary’s most beloved acts, he also says, “‘Yung pinaka-important part [of being an artist] is ‘yung emotion [or] ‘yung connection mo sa craft mo, and kung paano siya ma-de-deliver, at kung paano siya ma-re-receive ng fans mo.”
Showing up for fans does take its toll on an artist, the singer admits. “Mahirap talaga [sa tour] kasi lilipad ka, tapos kaunti lang talaga ‘yung tulog mo,” he says. “Most of the time, sa plane ka lang matutulog. Tapos ‘pag dating mo, rehearsal.”
But Nery adds, “Pero rewarding when you hear the fans na e. ‘Pag masaya sila, na-fe-feed din happiness mo.”
