The documentary film Eraserheads: Combo on the Run was initially intended to be released for only three days so the experience is similar to a concert weekend, as Warner Philippines distribution director Rico Gonzales said during the Combo on the Run panel at Rolling Stone Philippines LIVE! last Friday, March 21.
But over its release weekend, the film garnered enough enthusiastic response from the public that it has now been extended to another week in cinemas — this time with weekday screenings.
“The positive response and support have been overwhelming and humbling,” director Diane Ventura said in a statement. “I’m filled with so much gratitude. I hope more people get to see the film. I hope it does for them what it did for me. This is not just a music story; it’s our story. This is for all of us.”
The band, after their finale set at the Rolling Stone Philippines’ LIVE! grand launch, went to Gateway Cinema 5 in Quezon City for a surprise performance after a sold-out screening. They performed hits such as “Superproxy,” “Alapaap,” “Pare Ko,” and “Magasin.”
With the announcement of an Eraserheads Festival this May and new music teased at the end of the documentary credits, frontman Ely Buendia told the fans that they are now continuing as a group.
“By this time, I think tama na ‘yong reunion-reunion na yan. Wala nang huling ‘Huling El Bimbo.’ We’re here to stay,” Buendia said last Friday at the screening.
